Our aim is to improve access to rigorous, up-to-date information in Portuguese, grounded in the best available evidence, contributing to a better understanding of these conditions, improved healthcare, and greater knowledge and empowerment for people affected and their families.

Aliança Millions Missing is now making available in Portuguese the Infection-Associated Chronic Illnesses Provider Manual — First Edition, developed by the Cohen Center for Recovery from Complex Chronic Illness at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, a comprehensive clinical resource dedicated to infection-associated chronic illnesses.
The manual brings together practical, evidence-based information on ME/CFS, Long COVID and other post-infectious conditions, addressing clinical recognition, assessment, common symptoms and comorbidities, principles of treatment and follow-up. It is intended primarily for healthcare professionals, but also constitutes a useful resource for patients, caregivers, researchers and others interested in this field.
The Portuguese translation grew out of the collaboration established in the context of the 2nd Aliança Millions Missing International Conference in Porto and forms part of AMM’s work to expand access to high-quality clinical knowledge throughout the Portuguese-speaking world.
This is an unofficial Portuguese translation of the first edition of the manual, published in 2025, produced by Aliança Millions Missing with authorization from the Cohen Center. In the event of any discrepancy between the versions, or subsequent updates to the original document, the official English version prevails.

The guide brings together practical, evidence-based information on ME/CFS, Long COVID, and other Infection-Associated Chronic Conditions (IACCs), offering a structured approach to clinical assessment, diagnosis, common symptoms and comorbidities, treatment strategies, and ongoing management.
It is intended primarily for healthcare professionals, but also constitutes a useful resource for patients, caregivers, researchers, and others seeking to better understand these complex multisystem illnesses.
The Portuguese translation forms part of the work of Aliança Millions Missing to expand access to high-quality clinical knowledge and promote education on ME/CFS, Long COVID, and post-infectious illnesses throughout the Portuguese-speaking world.

Finding healthcare professionals who know and understand Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Long COVID and other Post-Acute Infection Syndromes (PAIS) remains one of the major challenges facing our community in Portugal.
It is in response to this reality that pontoEM was created: an independent project bringing together, in one place, evidence-based information and a network of healthcare professionals recommended by people who have already travelled this path.
A starting point
In Portugal, people living with ME/CFS, Long COVID or other PAIS often face a double challenge: a disabling illness and a healthcare system that is still insufficiently prepared to recognise, diagnose and provide appropriate care for these conditions.
pontoEM aims to help bridge this gap by facilitating access to information and enabling members of the community to share details of healthcare professionals with whom they have had positive experiences.
The network includes professionals recommended by members of the community, including doctors and other healthcare professionals with whom Aliança Millions Missing has worked and whom we have referred members of our community to over the years, alongside additional recommendations from people with lived experience.
It is a network built by the community, for the community.
The aim is for this to be a dynamic and growing network. Anyone who knows a doctor or other healthcare professional they believe should be included can suggest them through the pontoEM website.

pontoEM is an autonomous project, developed with the support and collaboration of Aliança Millions Missing (AMM).
Part of AMM's mission is to support initiatives led by people with lived experience and to collaborate on projects that can provide practical and useful resources for people living with ME/CFS, Long COVID and other PAIS.
We are therefore delighted to welcome the launch of pontoEM and hope that this new resource will become increasingly useful to our entire community.
